Our After-School Program Themes
BRIXOLOGY
Using LEGO® bricks, kids build a different engineering-themed project in each class. They explore different engineering fields including mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering. They use critical thinking and creative problem-solving to test and improve their creations.
NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers
NASA and Mad Science collaborate to educate the next generation! Children go on a voyage of discovery with unique hands-on activities, and amazing demonstrations that explore the sun and stars, space technology, rocket science, the atmosphere, planets and moons, and more!
Crazy Chemworks
Welcome to the world of chemistry! Children make gooey slime, experiment with different reactions and learn to use the tools that chemists use. Polymers and catalysts are only two of the fascinating concepts young scientists explore in this thrilling trip through the chemistry lab!
Science in Action
In this 6 week program, children explore the following topics: heat, lights and color, magnetism, sound, electricity and simple machines. They learn the concepts of heat and transfer. They experiment with thermometers, materials that transfer heat at different rates. They explore Newton’s color theory using color-wheel blending and prism-splitting spectra and also discover the physics of light.
Forces and Motion
We live in a universe that constantly moves. There are natural laws that govern these forces that make us move. Students learn to be budding physicists. They are introduced to Newton’s Laws of Motion. They investigate that objects with more mass require more force to move. They learn that for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction.
The Science of Life
Children are introduced to the amazing science of living things—from the basics of cells of plants and animals, to human body systems, and how humans interact with other living things in an ecosystem. They build a model cell, identify cell components and learn their functions. The hands-on activities teach the interconnectedness of an ocean food web, and the consequences of overfishing.
Wacky Chemistry
In this 6 week after school program, children learn that chemistry is in many of our daily activities--in the kitchen or just plain having fun. They learn the differences between a physical and a chemical reaction as they as they use yeast in baking and do protein and starch analysis. They observe crystals form in water glass, and see acetone reduce foam to a puddle of goo.
Secret Agent Lab
Suspects, schematics, and sleuths… oh my! Connect the dots using science to help solve a crime in this hands-on investigation of the science of sleuthing. Children use the ‘scene solver’ to reconstruct the scene of a crime. Using the ‘whodunit-kit’, they can practice their skills of recall and observation—matching character descriptions to reconstruct the face of the culprit!
